Conceptual Design for New School
Bossier will build its first three-story middle school when the new Haughton Middle is constructed to accommodate the rapidly growing student population in the eastern part of the parish. The new school is designed for 1,500 students in sixth through eighth grades.
A large, centrally located commons/dining area will be incorporated into the academic wing. Athletic facilities will include a gym with bleacher seating for 1,000 with the capability for additional bleacher and floor seating. Due to the large number of buses and traffic generated from parent pick-up and drop-off, parking will be designed for 40 buses and 200+ vehicles, as well as 500 spaces for event parking.
To recognize schools that make significant growth from one year to the next, Louisiana designates schools that achieve their growth target as a Top Gains school if they are not in subgroup component failure, and they are not identified as failing NCLB subgroup performance more than one year. Top Gains schools are eligible for monetary awards that can be used for any educational purpose within the school.
Schools can increase their School Performance Score by 1) improving student performance yearly on state assessments and/or 2) by earning bonus points for improving student performance for the lowest-performing students.
Haughton Middle School received this prestigious award for acquiring all ten of the bonus points available. Only seven schools in Bossier Parish were given this award.
